During yesterdays meeting she shared her experience and she inspired others to take part such a program.
This Tuesday, 7th of August the Avachinsky RC had an interesting meeting. We met Rotarians from Nakhodka (Russia) and Manitoba (Canada). Rotary has friends around the World and its activity really helps to change the World around us and inside of us. This team came to Kamchatka for climbing the volcanoes and rafting. You are welcome to Kamchatka.
The Rotary Club of Avachinsky is located on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the northeastern part of Russia. The Club has been a part of Rotary International for ten years. During the past three years the club has been very busy working on major activities. The following is a list of the Club's major activities and projects:
The Kamchatka Peninsula is a part of the Russian Kamchatka Oblast (along with a part of the continent, the Komandorskiye Islands and Karaginsky Island). The majority of the 402,500 inhabitants are Russians, and the largest minority are the Koryaks. The northern part of the peninsula is occupied by Koryak Autonomous Okrug, where around 13,000 Koryaks live.
Kamchatka History. The Kamchatka Peninsula in Far East Russia is one of the most volcanically active locations in the entire world. Part of the Ring of Fire, Kamchatka has the highest density of volcanoes and associated volcanic activity in the world. This place, deemed “ Russia 's Yellowstone ”, is home to over 130 volcanoes, 29 of which are still active today. The land's beautiful scenery and wildlife along with the numerous outdoor activities available draw thousands of visitors each year. It is known for its amazing diversity and abundance of wildlife and nearly pristine frontier land. First "discovered" in the 17th century by Russian explorer Ivan Kamchatiy, Simon Dezhnev and the Cossack Ivan Rubetz, Kamchatka is currently inhabited by over 400,000 Russians. The founding of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in 1740 by the Danish explorer Vitus Bering began the "opening" of Kamchatka in earnest, helped by the fact that the government began to use the area as a place of exile. The Russian government encouraged settlement by granting land to newcomers on the peninsula ? ??? ??? |
