This project was funded by OrphanAct.

I. PROJECT DESCRIPTION.

Rotaract Club Avachinsky visited Children’s Regional Hospital of Kamchatka Region in April 2005.

Children’s Regional Hospital of Kamchatka Region services all children’s population of Kamchatka, including Koryak Autonomy District, - i n total 80,800 kids.

The creation of children’s hospital in Kamchatka has been long and hard –  20 years!  It continues today

Children’s Regional Hospital of Kamchatka Region was formed on the base of City Hospital # 1 of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

The 1st of August 1991 is the juridical date of hospital’s birthday.

The 24th of October 1991 the hospital was sanctified by the dean of the Temple of St. Peter and Paul of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Father Yaroslav.

The sources of hospital’s financing: Regional budget, the Fund of obligatory medical insuring, out of budget sources, sponsor’s help.

     1) regional budget (2004 – 65 %);

     2) the Fund of obligatory medical insuring (2004 – 96 %).

     Material base:

     Hospital’s capacity – 183 beds.

     The hospital is situated in the hostel, adjusted for the hospital.

     Medical work:

      Annually 4,5 – 5 thousand kids are hospitalized with different somatic pathologies:
        - about 300 invalid kids with the diseases of blood, support-motor [locomotor] apparatus , neurological pathology, heart diseases, etc.;
        - about 60-70 kids, abandoned by the parents;
        - 1,5 thousand operations are made in the hospital annually,
        - 0,3 % - mortality

As a result of a meeting with the head physician of hospital it has been revealed, that the hospital requires a lot of things, including the TV and a carpet for the Game zone, which in hospital refers to a "sun deck".

Small children play on a floor, which is laid by parquet, old enough, therefore playing, they receive splinters. And also the cold floor negatively influences health of children, increasing risk of flue.

Necessity for the TV is caused by educational needs. Viewing of such telecasts promotes increase of the general development of children.
