Ulan-Ude Club Members A Group of Happy Children

The city of Ulan-Ude is located in the Republic of Buryatia. The Capital of the Republic is located on the right bank of the Slenga River, and is almost in the very center of Asia! The City's history started in 1666, when the Russian Cossacks' built the Uda's mouth. It was the wintering place for that area. It was officially called a city in 1690.
The Ulan-Ude Rotary Club was founded in September 1997 and is part of RI District 5010. The Club was busy in 2005! They obtained an RI Foundation grant of 650,000 Rubles that supplied equipment for a receiving center for teen criminals. The equipment included sporting equipment, computers, furniture,
They obtained a second RI Foundation grant of 600,000 Rubles for laundry equipment for the"Malyshok" Children's Home. This home cares for children ranging from 2 to 7 years of age, whose parents have lost parental rights and are incarcerated.
The Club members used their own finances to purchase a signpost with the Rotary symbol. The sign post was set up near the "Geser" Hotel. The name of the lane where this sign post is located is named "Rotary Lane." The Club members also used their own financial resources to purchase a musical center for the children at the "Verkhnyaya Berezovka Children's Medical Home. This gift was presented the Medical Home in honor of their anniversary.
During the New Year Holidays, the Club sponsored an event to assist the "Malyshok" Children's Home. Placards with pictures of the children were put up and containers for donations were placed in six of the city's stores. The money collected was used to purchase gifts an toys for the children.
A container with medical equipment, worth 3,264,000 Rubles was received a result of grants from Rotary Clubs in the State of Wisconsin. The medical equipment was delivered to the city maternity hospital.
